My earliest memories are of nature walks with my father in our garden... and drawing. I would pick flowers and press them in the pages of books to preserve their beauty. And later, when dried, I would hold the thin petals to the light and study their delicate structures. I supposed it was this love of flowers and my need to observe detail that led me to floral painting. I like to approach each composition with the intention of revealing something unseen or unnoticed about the flower: I think of them as floral ‘portraits’.
I work in the lively medium of acrylics, sealed with oil glazes, which bring the blooms to life on the canvases. I often paint on oversized canvases - limited in size only by the ability to get them through my front door! The large scale is immersive - providing a dramatic perspective into the floral world.
I'm always looking for new blooms. I visit parks, flower markets and neighbourhood gardens. As the seasons change, there is always something new to admire! I live and work from my bushland studio in Sydney.
I am represented by: Art to Art, Melbourne; Moulton Gallery, Sydney; Milk Favctory Gallery, Bowral and Feather & Lawry, Toowoomba QLD. I exhibit in several group exhibitions each year including the Gosford Regional Gallery, Lindfield, Hunters Hill, Balmain and Toowoomba Art Shows.
In 2019 my solo exhibition 'Heart & Home' was held @ the Milk Factory Gallery, Bowral NSW. A huge thank you to friends, art lovers, collectors and fellow garden enthusiasts who travelled to the exhibition. I had a ball chatting with you.
When not preparing for exhibitions, I paint commissions. Commissions are a great way to own a painting uniquely specific for your needs...and the process is fun too!
